                             NPPC Overview and Mission

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is the voice of the pork industry on legislative and regulatory matters in Washington, D.C. It represents more than 66,000 pork producers, who in 2007 marketed 59 million hogs in a multi-billion dollar industry. Our industry generates more than 550,000 jobs in the United States, including input suppliers, producers, processors, handlers and main-street businesses. Overall, an estimated $20.7 billion of personal income and $34.5 billion of gross national product are supported by the hog industry based on 2005 levels of production. U.S. pork and pork variety meat exports in 2007 were valued at more than $3 billion.

NPPC is the global voice for the U.S. pork industry working daily to protect the livelihoods of pork producers by fighting for reasonable legislation and regulation and developing revenue and market opportunities. Our mission is to add significant value to pork producers and industry investors by achieving favorable laws and regulations that help them operate successful businesses and compete effectively and profitably in the global marketplace.

                                        Core Mission

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) conducts public policy outreach on behalf of its 43 affiliated state association members - enhancing opportunities for the success of U.S. pork producers and other industry stakeholders by establishing the U.S. pork industry as a consistent and responsible supplier of high quality pork to the domestic and world market.

As the pork industry changes in scope and complexity, the challenge to pork producers is to adapt and continue to be profitable. NPPC is meeting those challenges through a series of strategic programs designed to address issues affecting pork from production to consumer demand. Through these efforts, NPPC intends to strive for the passage and implementation of laws and regulations that are conducive to the production and sale of pork in both domestic and international markets.
