Producer Consent Form
Today
The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is in a dynamic
phase, but still draws its strengths form state organizations
and the producers they represent. In 2001 the USDA and a federal
judge approved a plan stipulating that NPPC and National Pork
Board operate as two separate entities. The separation means
that generally NPPC will focus on legislation/regulatory,
trade and advocacy issues.
Producer
Delegate Action
At the 2002 Annual Meeting, the NPPC producer delegates recognized
a growing need to fund NPPC and state organizations to advocate
and proactively defend the pork industry. At that meeting
the producers passed the following resolution:
That NPPC
will implement a producer consent at .10/$100 of value.
The funds
would be divided 50/50 with the state of origin (raised)
How
do I participate in the Producer Consent Program?
Step 1
A producer needs to complete a producer
consent form and return it to your state organization
or NPPC, P.O. Box 10383, Des Moines, IA, 50310.
Step 2
Upon notification to the market/packer, the producer consent
deduction will be made at the point-of-sale. In the case of
seedstock/feeder pigs the deduction can be sent directly to
NPPC or your state organization.
Step 3
The market/packer will accumulate all of the funds and forward
them to NPPC. The funds collected through the producer consent
will be divided equally with the proper state of origin. The
target start date for this program is September 1, 2002.
What
will Producer Consent funds be used for?
NPPC's role is to be a proactive voice for the pork producers
and the industry in discussions regarding legislation, regulation,
trade and the general public. Examples of the issues are:
Trade - Positively impact trade and trade policies
that will continue to expand the record exports of U.S. pork
and pork products.
Legislation/Regulatory - Give pork producers a voice
in national issues, like animal rights, the environment and
food safety, which impact pork usage and production practices.
Advocacy Issues - Proactively respond to national,
state or local issues in cooperation with the state organizations.
